Nigeria Celebrates Winners of 2026 National Girls in ICT Competition
The Federal Government of Nigeria has honoured the winners and participants of the 2026 National Girls in ICT Competition at a special dinner held at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The event brought together outstanding young participants from across the country. It also marked the conclusion of a week-long programme focused on innovation, technology, and digital skills development for girls in Nigeria.
Strong Government Support for Girls in Tech
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, attended the event as Special Guest of Honour. She interacted with participants and reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting young women in STEM careers.
Officials said her presence highlighted the growing national focus on inclusion in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Over 3,700 Participants Nationwide
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the competition showcased the creativity and talent of young Nigerian girls.
He revealed that more than 3,700 participants joined from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. From this group, 111 girls emerged as national winners.
He added that the initiative reflects the government’s effort to build a stronger pipeline of future innovators and tech leaders.
Building Inclusion in Nigeria’s Digital Economy
Dr. Tijani stressed that empowering girls through technology education strengthens communities and supports long-term national development.
He also praised teachers, mentors, and programme partners for their role in delivering the initiative.

- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)
- National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA)
- Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST)
- Other public and private sector partners
Strengthening Nigeria’s Tech Future
The National Girls in ICT Competition forms part of Nigeria’s broader digital transformation strategy. It aims to ensure equal access to technology opportunities for young people across the country.
Officials said the programme will continue to develop future innovators who will contribute to Nigeria’s growing digital economy and Africa’s wider technology ecosystem.
