Vodacom Tanzania has announced a new partnership between its M-Pesa mobile money platform and PayPal to make international digital payments easier for customers in Tanzania.
The partnership allows eligible M-Pesa users to transfer money directly between their M-Pesa wallets and PayPal accounts using the M-Pesa Super App. Customers will be able to deposit funds into PayPal and withdraw money from PayPal back into their M-Pesa wallets safely and conveniently.
The integration is expected to benefit freelancers, software developers, online business owners, content creators, gig workers, and other Tanzanians earning money through international digital platforms.
The move comes as demand continues to grow for simpler cross-border payment solutions among people participating in remote work, online services, and global digital commerce.
Through the new service, Tanzanians who receive payments through PayPal will now have a more direct way to access their earnings locally through M-Pesa.
Speaking on the partnership, Acting M-Pesa Director, Tulisindo Mlupilo, said the agreement reflects the company’s efforts to expand financial access through digital innovation.
He said digital connectivity is opening new opportunities for Tanzanians involved in freelancing, e-commerce, and online businesses, and that the PayPal partnership would make it easier for customers to send, receive, deposit, and access funds across platforms with greater confidence.
Otto Williams, Senior Vice President and Regional Head for the Middle East and Africa at PayPal, said the collaboration supports growing global demand for digital commerce and remote work participation.
According to him, enabling transfers between PayPal and M-Pesa through linked accounts will help create a smoother and more convenient payment experience for customers in Tanzania.
Customers will access the service directly through the M-Pesa Super App by linking their PayPal accounts to their M-Pesa wallets through a guided onboarding process designed to ensure secure transactions.
The partnership also strengthens M-Pesa’s position in Tanzania’s digital financial services sector while supporting wider efforts to improve financial inclusion and expand access to global digital commerce opportunities.
Vodacom Tanzania said more details regarding onboarding, transaction limits, timelines, and service guidelines will be shared through official customer communication channels and the company website.
